Presenter bio

Dr Bronwyn King AO is a former radiation oncologist turned global public health champion. Her expertise spans healthy indoor air, tobacco control, cancer prevention, sustainable finance, and leadership across the health sector.

In 2012, she founded Tobacco Free Portfolios, the NGO behind the ground breaking movement that has united over 200 global financial institutions representing more than US$18 trillion that is now committed to tobacco-free finance. Her TEDxSydney talk has inspired widely, with over three million views.

Today, Dr King is spearheading global action on Healthy Indoor Air—an overlooked public health challenge with significant health and economic impact. In 2025, she launched the Global Pledge for Healthy Indoor Air during an event she convened at UN headquarters, and co founded Air Club, alongside Dr Georgia Lagoudas of Brown University. Air Club is currently working with the French Presidency of the G7 nations, to advance action on healthy indoor air.
A former elite swimmer who represented Australia, Dr King later served as Team Doctor for the Australian Swimming Team. She now serves as Chair of Medical Indemnity Protection Society and sits on the Board of Nicolab.

Her leadership has been widely recognised: in 2019 she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia and named Melburnian of the Year. In 2022 she received the WHO Director General’s Special Award for outstanding contribution to global tobacco control.
