Air Filter Selection and the Energy Impact of Air Cleaning Devices at the Outside Air Supply, AHU and FCU Points

Location
Pullman International Cairns
Time
03/09/2026, 2:05 pm-2:30 pm

This presentation explores how to optimise air filter selection to achieve high indoor air quality while minimising HVAC energy consumption. It draws on decades of practical experience applying AS16890 compliant particulate filtration and Eurovent certified energy performance to deliver reliable, real world outcomes. The session covers strategies for controlling PM2.5, along with molecular pollutants such as VOCs, SOx, NOx, and Ozone through effective use of fine, molecular, and, where necessary for critical applications, HEPA filtration. A key focus is aligning filtration performance with the IAQ requirements of ASHRAE 241 and EN 16798, while meeting the outside air and energy efficiency obligations of AS 1668.2 and NCC Section J6. Attendees will gain practical guidance on selecting filtration solutions that balance contaminant removal, system performance, and lifecycle energy cost.
